How it works
- Request: the player chooses the method and amount in the cashier, within the withdrawal limits.
- Checks: whether KYC has been passed, whether there is an active bonus with unfinished wagering, whether there are any AML signals.
- Payout: the money is sent through a payment provider. How long it takes to arrive depends on the method: from minutes to several banking days.
A closed loop usually applies: money is withdrawn by the same method it was deposited with, up to the amount deposited. Winnings above that, and payouts the method does not accept, go to another verified account of the player. This protects against money laundering through the casino.
Pending and reverse withdrawals
Pending is the time a request waits to be processed. In some markets the player can cancel the withdrawal during this time and return the money to their balance (reverse withdrawal). Some markets restrict or ban this: the rules are set by the licence.
Holding a request for a long time so that the player cancels it and loses the money is bad practice. It damages trust and creates a responsible gambling risk.
The first withdrawal
Withdrawal speed is part of retention. A fast first withdrawal gives the player trust and a reason to come back. A first withdrawal check that drags on for days often turns into the player's last visit.
So request KYC documents in advance, before the first withdrawal, in the player's language and with a clear timeframe. By the time the request comes in, the check is already done, and the money goes out in hours, not days.
Common mistakes
- KYC at the moment of withdrawal. The player is waiting for money and gets a list of documents with no timeframe, in a language they do not speak.
- Rules visible only after the request. Show withdrawal limits, the closed loop and any active bonus before the player presses the button.
- Measuring the average time. The average hides the tail. Track the share of withdrawals that take longer than 24 hours, and the first withdrawal separately.
