No deposit bonus: an offer without a deposit

No deposit bonus (NDB) is free spins or bonus money given without a deposit. It usually comes with high wagering, a low max cashout and an identity check before withdrawal, because it is the offer people most often try to claim dishonestly.

Why it is given

  • At registration: to let players try the product without risk and lead them to a first deposit.
  • For deep churn: the player has not logged in for a long time, and it is too early to ask them for a deposit. A no deposit bonus brings them back into the product.

Active players who deposit on their own do not need a no deposit bonus: for them it is a pure cost.

How to protect it

  • Max cashout: for example, no more than €50 from the bonus. Without it, a no deposit bonus becomes a lottery paid for by the casino.
  • High wagering: usually x35-x40 on the winnings.
  • Identity check before withdrawal and a rule of one bonus per person, address and device.
  • An activation window of 72 hours or more for inactive players: they do not log in every day.

What it costs

Most no deposit bonuses never reach a withdrawal: the balance runs out during wagering. The cost comes from a few big wins, so the max cashout matters more than the bonus size. You can calculate it in the bonus cost calculator in no deposit mode.

Common mistakes

  • No max cashout. One big win wipes out the economics of the whole campaign.
  • A no deposit bonus open to all, with no checks. Multi-accounters find it fast.
  • Judging it by bonuses handed out. Measure deposits after the bonus against a control group.
