Bonus conversion rate: how much bonus became real money

Bonus conversion rate (bonus-to-cash conversion) is the share of credited bonuses that survived wagering and became real money. It is this share, not the credited amount, that sets the true cost of bonuses for the casino.

Formula and example

Bonus conversion rate = became real money / bonuses credited x 100%In a month €100,000 in bonuses was credited, and after wagering €12,000 became real money: a 12% conversion rate.

Why this is the key number

A credited bonus is a promise. Most players lose the bonus balance or abandon wagering, and only part of the bonuses becomes real money out of the casino's pocket. That is why bonus cost and Bonus Rate are calculated on the converted amount, not the credited one.

What drives it

  • Wagering requirement: the lower it is, the higher the conversion.
  • Games and their contribution: games with high RTP and high contribution push conversion up.
  • Volatility and bet size: big bets on volatile games produce rare but large conversions.
  • Max cashout: cuts off the most expensive outcomes.

The bonus cost calculator shows how these settings together change the price of a bonus.

Common mistakes

  • Comparing the conversion of different bonuses regardless of wagering. 30% on cashback at x1 and 8% on a bonus at x40 are normal numbers for their own terms.
  • Looking only at the average. Conversion by segment and by game shows where a bonus works and where it leaks into abuse.
