High roller: a big player and a big risk

A high roller is a player whose deposits and bets are far above the average for the player base. They bring in a large share of revenue, but a single win of theirs can also push the month negative, so offers for them are built on separate rules.

How to spot one

From the first days: the size of the first deposits, the bet size and how often they play. A high roller is visible long before they build up status in the loyalty programme. The sooner a personal manager gets in touch, the higher the chance they stay.

Which offers work

  • Cashback and rakeback: a clear cost and no risk of a big win from a bonus.
  • A deposit bonus with low wagering and a tight cap on winnings, for example no more than the bonus amount. A high roller's real-money bets also count towards wagering, so low wagering without a cap gets expensive.
  • Their own bet limits while wagering: a general limit for everyone sits below their usual bet and only annoys them.
  • Service matters more than bonuses: fast withdrawals, a personal manager, priority support.

Risks

  • GGR swings: a month with a big high roller win shows a loss even though the team did the same work. Look at GGR without the top players too.
  • Checks: large amounts require source of funds verification. Warn players in advance, not at the moment of withdrawal.
  • Responsible gambling: rising bets can be a sign of a problem, not of value. Such signals are checked before any offer.
